So after a long break of almost three months, I’m finally back to reading!
The very first book I chose to read was The Maze Runner by James Dashner. I (quite stupidly) picked it up at the evening and of course, had a sleepless night thanks to the fast paced adventures that James has a knack of writing. Needless to say, Mom and Dad weren’t happy to see me up at 2 am and I had to finish it secretly under the light of the night lamp.
But the whole experience reminded me of how beautiful reading a book is. Authors breathe life in an inanimate object with their thoughts and imagination. The same imagination is transferred to us by reading those words, those sentences which build a completely new experience, right from the scratch. We live a life previously unknown to us through the words of another person. And once you start to read an interesting book, you just can’t put it down till you finish it!
Reading a good book during stressful times is like taking a breath of fresh, clean air in a polluted city. Like getting a window seat in a crowded train. We have the option to peek into any place we like, even the ones that don’t exist. Books help us construct entire worlds in our minds, make our imagination go wild and most importantly, let us do our own thinking. That, my dear friends, is the beauty and joy of reading; something that cannot be captured in words, but can only be felt.
I, for one, am looking forward to reading the sequel of The Maze Runner and I’ve started to read City of Bones by Cassandra Clare (and loving it so far!).
Go, relax, pick a nice book and start reading. And watch as you discover a new you.
